A community-based sport and cultural initiative held on December 28, 2025, in Genoa, Italy, highlighted the role of collective activities in encouraging youth engagement, dialogue, and shared human values. The initiative brought together participants of different ages and backgrounds with a focus on social connection, mutual respect, and constructive interaction through inclusive public activities.
Genoa was presented as a city shaped by its long-standing role in connecting people and cultures. Rather than emphasizing historical references, the initiative framed the city as a contemporary environment where coexistence and cultural exchange continue to be practiced through community-led efforts and civic participation.
The program was structured in two complementary segments. The first segment took place at a local sports field, where children, young people, and adults participated in organized sporting activities designed to promote teamwork, inclusion, and respect. A central moment of the day involved participants collectively raising a banner displaying the word “peace” in multiple languages, followed by a symbolic kick of the ball. This gesture represented a shared rejection of violence and a commitment to positive engagement through sport.

The second segment was held at a public cultural venue, where an evening program brought together contributors from the fields of sport, music, and community life. The session included guided remarks and live performances, creating a space for reflection on the role of cultural expression in fostering understanding and emotional connection among diverse audiences.
This edition was led by Alfredo Maiolese. Musical performances formed a key part of the cultural program, demonstrating how artistic expression can support dialogue and shared experiences across generations. The initiative emphasized the importance of integrating creative elements into community activities to strengthen social bonds and encourage participation, particularly among younger members of society.
Coordination of the initiative focused on combining sport, culture, and public involvement as practical tools for reinforcing cooperation and shared responsibility. Attention was placed on creating accessible formats that allow participants to engage actively, rather than passively observe, reinforcing a sense of collective ownership and inclusion.

Support from community-oriented partner groups further underscored the collaborative nature of the initiative and its focus on common values. The overall experience highlighted how locally driven activities can contribute to broader conversations around coexistence, responsibility, and mutual respect.
Through this initiative, Genoa was presented as a living example of how sport and culture can work together to encourage dialogue and cooperation at both local and broader levels. The experience demonstrated the lasting value of investing in community-based activities that promote participation, inclusion, and shared human understanding.
